The city of Gretna, Entergy and Friends of Jefferson the Beautiful recently held a Cochon de Lait on the neutral grounds of Huey P. Long Avenue. The gorgeous weather that day helped enhance the beautiful landscaping that was on display for the event.

Two of the live oak trees on the neutral ground were named and inducted into the Live Oak Society of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation. The next time you're walking through the neutral ground, stop and visit "Old Man Samuel" and "Copernicus" while you're there.

Ann Carmon and MaryAnne Price were both volunteers for the event. "I had a great time there," Price said. "The fall colors displayed in the landscaping were so beautiful. The food was great, and we all had a great time."

Carmon said, "The pumpkins looked really good, and they sold from $25 to $50."

The event included a roasted pig, gumbo, potato salad and Baskin Robbins ice cream. There were exhibits and auctions and face painting for the kids. Music was performed by Beau Ledet.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Gretna recently held a donation drive for the Salvation Army. Employees from both the 5th Circuit and Jefferson Parish brought in bags of donations for the collection.

"We would like to thank the 5th Circuit Court for coordinating the collection," said Karen Dufour, general supervisor of the Salvation Army. "We collected three carts of clothing totaling 1,400 pounds, one cart of bric-a-brac, two television sets and one stereo. Everything helps towards the program, and we want to thank everyone who helped."
