Dinner will celebrate priests' anniversaries
St. Anthony Church and St. Pius X Mission, under the direction of the Rev. John Ryan, are preparing for a Thanksgiving dinner to honor three priests celebrating their 50th jubilee years of service to their church on Sunday after the 11 a.m. Mass at St. Anthony Parish Center.
The Rev. Donald Duffy, son of Michael Duffy and Margaret Gowan Duffy, was born Feb. 5, 1924, in Cleveland. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe from 1943 to 1945. He was wounded in the invasion of Italy at the Battle of Anzio, in spring of 1944. He was engaged in further military service in France and Germany. His military journey ended in 1945.
Duffy was awarded three Purple Hearts for his service.
He has retired, but is in residency at St. Anthony, conducting Mass and helping where he is needed.
The Rev. John Lehman, son of Joseph Lehman and Ada Maire Folland Lehman, was born in 1942, in Sault Saint Marie, Mich. He served in the U.S. Navy, in the Pacific Theatre, during World War II aboard the Pacific Fleet 2 from 1943 to 1947.
After graduation from the University of Detroit and Sacred Heart College in Detroit, he entered St. John's in Plymouth, Mich., and was ordained into the priesthood, in June 1956. In 1959, he enlisted with the U.S. Air Force as a chaplain.
He retired from the Air Force in 1984, with the rank of chaplain, lieutenant colonel. He has been living in Barataria since that time.
Lehman assisted at St. Anthony in Lafitte and Barataria for many years, and he still says Mass.
The Rev. Jerry Dabria, son of Dave Vincent Dabria and Ethel Gertrude Antonini Dabria, was born on July 4, 1930.
He is from Marrero, and served as altar boy at Immaculate Conception church in Marrero. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 4, 1955. He started his studies in San Antonio when he was 12 years old. He went to Notre Dame Seminary for six years. After his studies, he was assigned to St. Maurice church, then went to several towns in Louisiana, including LaPlace for 10 years, Galliano, St. Angela Merici in Metairie for another 10 years, Destrehan for two years and St. Bernard for 10 years. He retired after serving 12 years at St. Pius X in Crown Point. He lives in Metairie.
