Festival workers get ready for new dates
Hello, neighbors. I hope everyone had a great week. Every year Holy Guardian Angels Mission, puts on the Bridge City Gumbo Festival in October. But this year, they had to postpone due to weather.
On the first day of the festival, Oct. 9, the rain made the ground unsafe for walking and difficult for parking. So, the board of directors decided to reschedule the festival for the weekend of Nov. 6 through 8.
Festival organizers already held the children's essay contest, poster contest, baby contest and the chicken/seafood gumbo contest. They will announce the winners of the gumbo contests on Nov. 6.
I talked to Gary Gerard, who was in charge of this year's festival. I asked him what hurt the most about having to postpone the festival. He said they lost about $12,000 in advertising. They did lose some food, but a lot of the food was still frozen, so they were very lucky there. They donated hot dog and hamburger buns to the Youth Center on River Road.
They had bands scheduled to perform for the weekend, but the bands were good enough to come back at the rescheduled date. All the vendors who were going to work at the festival agreed to work with them with the rescheduling.
The parishioners worked hard to put this festival together. They were disappointed by the postponement, but as true Louisianians, they are resilient. They will come back better than ever.
. . . . . . .
This year's winner of the baby contest at the Bridge City Gumbo Festival is Dani Lynn Warino. Dani is 3 years old and goes to Our Lady of Prompt Succor. She really gave a show to the judges.
She won first place in show, she got a certificate and plaque for overall photogenic, and won a certificate and plaque for overall beautiful child....
