The Keep Slidell Beautiful board of directors recently met to discuss the results of the fall citywide cleanup.

A total of 172 bags of litter was collected. That number is down from the 220 collected in the spring and even lower still than the 450-500 bags collected in each of the two cleanups last year.

According to Bill Mauser, executive director of Keep Slidell Beautiful, those figure indicate a 60 percent improvement in litter control in the city.

Mauser estimates that two-thirds of the volunteers worked on cleanup while the rest worked on beautification projects. The goal for next spring is to have half the volunteers working on beautification.

Guillot and Mike Cosse, supervisor of administration in St. Tammany, plan to meet with members of the PTA and representatives of area schools on Nov. 10 to promote curriculum programs educating children on litter prevention and beautification within schools. They are working with a $5,000 grant awarded to them from Keep Louisiana Beautiful. Mauser, along with the rest of the board attribute the success of Keep Slidell Beautiful to the many businesses, civic groups, and volunteers who donate their time and money to improve the quality of life for everyone in Slidell....
