Lynn Oaks Harvest Fest a feast full of fun
Harvest Fest at Lynn Oaks School was cause for celebration as the students enjoyed specially planned activities on the Friday prior to Halloween.
"The kids love it," said Kathy Lemoine, an assistant in the school's Pre-K 4-year-old program. "Around noon, we started the festivities with a pizza party. The kids have a ball."
Lemoine worked with Pre-K 3 assistant Tracy Buras and office manager Jennifer Nata to prepare for the event. They made decorations for the school, including a photo booth with scarecrows.
"You could feel the excitement for a week because the students were so happy to wear their costumes to school," Lemoine said.
When the day of the event arrived, the three women were glad to see the students enjoying the celebration. "All our hard work paid off when we saw the smiles on their faces," Nata said.
The students had a great deal to smile about. The event started with a special guest, Jinx Easley, who visited the school and brought two horses.
"She taught the children about the special care of horses and large animals," said Principal Kim Duplantier. "They got to pet the horses, and they also took pictures with them."
In addition, each classroom had a party and then enjoyed the Harvest Fest that was planned for the afternoon. A cookie-decorating booth provided the students with creativity and fun as they each decorated cookies with icing. They also enjoyed tricycle races, and a "Mummy Wrap."
"They took turns wrapping each other up," Duplantier said.
Another popular activity was the Pumpkin Push. To participate, the students raced two-by-two, pushing pumpkins with a broom from one side of the playground to the other.
