SLU RECEIVES DONATION
The Occupational Safety, Health & Environment program at Southeastern Louisiana University recently received a gift of monitoring equipment and instruments from Chalmette Refining, giving students valuable hands-on learning opportunities. The instruments are estimated to be worth $40,000 and will be important for the students who are planning to work in a variety of industrial settings.
The program, which leads to a bachelor of science degree, builds on Southeastern's industrial technology and computer science programs offered through the College of Science and Technology. It is the only OHS&E program in the southeastern United States. The program is overseen and advised by a committee of industrial safety and health professionals from the area including Wayne Lacombe, industrial hygienist at Chalmette Refining.
"We are pleased to donate these microscopes, chromatographs and other instruments to Southeastern," said Craig Joseph, Chalmette Refining's safety, health & environmental manager. "Along with their class work, these tools will provide students invaluable experience that can be used immediately upon graduation."
