Chalmette High
Chalmette High School's homecoming is right around the corner. With the game on Nov. 6 and the dance on Nov. 7, the student body has chosen its 2009-10 homecoming court.
They are: Queen Megan Murphy, First Maid Carley McInnis, Senior Maid Gabriel Major, and Maids Kelsey Acosta, Kimberly Hirstius, Brooke Salazar, Heather Lewis, Destiny De Los Reyes and Melanie Benit.
The game will be held at Bobby Nuss Stadium, where the Owl football team will play West Jefferson. During halftime, the court will be presented by their alumni escorts. During the dance, the court is announced and walked up to the stage by their escorts, showing off the girls' beautiful gowns.
This fall, CHS Live!, Chalmette High's drama club, is presenting the play "Is There a Comic in the House?" written by Billy St. John.
Directing the play will be Thomas Dugger, an English teacher at Chalmette High. Dugger has been with CHS Live! for nine years. Producing the play is a returning actress from Chalmette, Ashley Lord. She is also an English teacher at Chalmette and has been with CHS Live! for three years. Lord not only worked with CHS Live! as a producer but also acted in the plays all four years of her high school career.
According to the www.samuelfrench.com synopsis, "Seven wildly funny comedians, including the landlady, live in Shotzie Starr's boarding house. The only 'normal' resident is Shotzie's granddaughter whose pizza delivering boyfriend is (you guessed it) an aspiring comedian. The action at Shotzie's becomes manic when bumbling kidnappers crash their van and take refuge there with their victim, a haughty socialite, in tow. Police surround the house and the unrestrainable comics are suddenly in the proximity of reporters' TV cameras."
The play's cast consists of a mixture of veterans from previous shows along with some fresh faces. The cast is as follows: Jonna Voorendt as Deliah; Nicholas Perniciaro as Phil; Devin Burgess as Zach; Alan Rocha as Ed; Kelsy Lohn as Louise; Alex Dickenson as Huey; Eric Lipse as Dewey; Breanna Goodling as Melora; Alana Rocha as Zeui; Melanie Benit as Pepper; Maggie Roussell as Gloria; Daniel Flattmann as Howard; and Kimmy Hirstius as Shotzie....
