    ANIMAL SHELTER VOLUNTEERS

    The St. Bernard Animal Shelter is in need of volunteers to assist Jefferson SPCA volunteers with an off-site adoption May 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Jefferson Feed Store in Metairie.

    Volunteers are needed to bathe dogs May 9 and 10, transport them to the event and return dogs to the shelter.

    FAUBOURG MARIGNY TOUR

    The 36th Annual Faubourg Marigny Spring Home and Garden Tour will be May 18 from noon to 4 p.m. at 700 Elysian Fields, Washington Square Park and throughout the Faubourg Marigny.

    The Faubourg Marigny is just east of the French Quarter along the Mississippi River in New Orleans. The tour begins in the heart of the Marigny at Washington Square Park, and winds through the neighborhood to visit some of New Orleans' most historic and unique homes.

    There will be an art market and music in the park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. where patrons can buy fine art, photography, jewelry, crafts, accessories, mosaics, home furnishings and more while enjoying live New Orleans music from local musicians.

    Day-of-tour tickets will be available for $20 in Washington Square Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    ESSAY CONTEST

    EPCO Construction of New Orleans is accepting entries for their $100,000 "House for a Child Essay Contest." EPCO will award the winner of the competition a newly built home or home renovations worth $100,000.

    Applicants must be between the ages of 8 and 18 and attend school in St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Orleans or Jefferson parishes. Entrants are required to write an essay explaining why their family deserves a new home. EPCO will accept entries through May 31....
