Fundraiser will give a hand to some real heroes
Support Our War Heroes will host a fundraiser, "In the Company of Heroes," on Thursday from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the National World War II Museum.
The event will feature cuisine from some of the finest New Orleans restaurants (Cochon's, La Cote Brasserie, Trey Yuen, Vincent's, Acme Oyster House, Mother's, Maya's, Keith Young's, Bon Ton, Coffee Rani, Grillot's, Drago's and Sweet Lou's), an open bar and entertainment.
The event is designed to honor war heroes, raise awareness of the many sacrifices servicemen and women have made in defense of the country, while at the same time raising money to assist those who have suffered major injuries in Iraq or Afghanistan. This year, 29 heroes will be honored.
Suzy McDaniel, president of Support Our War Heroes, said, "Many injuries our servicemen and women receive, such as traumatic amputations, brain and spinal cord injuries and shrapnel wounds, will end their military careers. The money raised from this event will provide medical treatment and long-range planning assistance to help them rebuild their lives."
The honored guest and speaker at the event will be retired Army Gen. Russel Honore, who led U.S. military forces during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Maj. Gen. Hunt Downer will serve as master of ceremonies for the event and retired Rear Adm. Timothy McGee will introduce the honored heroes.
The entire program from the guest speakers to the entertainment to the venue offers a fitting way to celebrate the true heroes of today: the men and women of our armed forces.
