    --- St. Charles ---

    FALL FEST

    The St. Charles Council on Aging Inc. and St. Charles Recreation Department will hold its annual fall festival Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hahnville Senior Center on Pine Street.

    Games, food, prizes and other entertainment will be featured. For transportation, seniors may call 783.6683.

    BOOK SIGNING

    Author George Gurtner and photographer Frank H. Methe will be at the German Coast Farmers Market on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at Ormond Plantation on River Road in Destrehan.

    They will sign their book, "Historic Churches of Old New Orleans," which captures in words and magnificent color photos the history of 50 of the oldest Catholic churches in New Orleans.

    The book is in its third printing and has become a keepsake and gift and resource for preservationists and history buffs.

    Proceeds from the sale of the book will go to restore the historically significant St. Alphonsus Church in the Irish Channel of New Orleans.

    PUMPKIN PATCH

    First United Methodist Church of LaPlace is hosting its annual pumpkin patch Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through October at the church, 301 Bamboo Road, off of U.S. 51.

    Pumpkins, hayrides, music, snacks and other entertainment will be featured.

    School groups are welcome to visit. For information, call the church at 652.6560.

    HUNTER COURSE

    Hunter Safety Field Day, sponsored by the St. John Sheriff's Office, will be held Saturday at the Quality Inn in LaPlace. The class will begin at 9 a.m.

    This program is for people who took the hunter safety education class online. Participants must preregister by calling the St John Sheriff's Public Relations Division at 985.652.7058.
