Local church to hold Trunk or Treat event
Trunk or Treat will be Saturday at Lutheran Church of the Galilean on U.S. 51 in LaPlace.
The event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. in the parking lot.
Admission is free. Children will be able to trick or treat from one car to another.

Grant awarded.
Keep St. John Beautiful recently received a $600 grant from Entergy's community grants program.
The money will be used to maintain young trees recently planted on public grounds.
Thomas Daley, chairman of Keep St. John Beautiful, accepted the grant from Sheila Butler, St. John/St. James customer service manager for Entergy.

Basketball. The River Parishes YMCA will hold its annual 3-on-3 Corporate Cup basketball tournament Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at New Wine Christian Fellowship complex, 1929 W. Airline Highway, LaPlace.
The entry fee is $500 per team. Teams will consist of five players. Proceeds will benefit the YMCA centers in Destrehan and LaPlace.
Food and beverages will be available. Fitness demonstrations will be held by the YMCA's Leaders Club.

Food focus. The St. John the Baptist Parish 4-H Program will hold a Food Focus cooking contest and nutrition expo Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ascension of Our Lord School on Greenwood Drive in LaPlace.
Registration will start at 10 a.m. Judging will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Awards will be presented at 1 p.m.
While dishes are being judged, the expo will be held.
Also, a pumpkin-decorating contest, open to the public, will be held. Participants should bring their decorated pumpkins to the event.

Homeowners group meets. The Garden District Rue Des Jardin Homeowners Association, along with businesses on the West Fifth Street corridor in LaPlace, will hold an organizational meeting Oct. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3337 Home, 500 West Fifth St....
