• After-prom parties in the works
Two St. John the Baptist Parish high schools are planning to give away laptops, iPhones, iPods, televisions, Wiis, gift cards and many other prizes during special parties that will be held after proms in the spring.

River Parishes Education Initiatives recently awarded $3,000 in grants to educators in the River Parishes for creative projects focusing on increasing parent, family and community involvement in schools.

• Ministry accepting donations for poor
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Ministry of Care is collecting donations of money and nonperishable food for the needy every Sunday during Lent. A bin is located at the entrance of the church.

• Senior citizens invited to join Council on Aging
Senior citizens in St. Charles and St. John the Baptist parishes are invited to join their local Council on Aging. Seniors, however, do not have to become a COA member to participate in services and activities at senior centers. And, any adult interested in the welfare of senior citizens is encouraged to get involved.
