Labordes to receive Porres Award at gala
Sylvia and John Peter Laborde will receive the 2009 St. Martin de Porres Award during the annual Southern Dominican Gala on Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the JW Marriott Hotel. The Southern Dominican Province presents the award each year to "leaders in the community who have exemplified the spirit of St. Martin's concern for social justice in the business, social, cultural and religious life of the city and state."
Past honorees include Marguerite Piazza, Archbishop Philip Hannan, Harry Connick Sr. and Harry Connick Jr.
The gala benefits the education of men studying for the priesthood and elderly retired Dominicans. Entertainment at the gala will be provided by the New Leviathan Oriental Fox-Trot Orchestra. Tickets are available by calling Paula Dicky at 504.837.2129, ext. 16.
