Author takes swipe at Internet scammers
It takes only a moment to delete messages from Internet scammers from your computer, even if the garbage they sent slips past your e-mail security system. But Diana Grove has made it her mission to give the senders what they gave. She recounts her adventures scamming the scammers in "Dot.Conned: The Outrageously Funny, 100% True Accounts of Conning Internet Con Men."
With a foreword by Andrei Codrescu, the copiously illustrated book gives us such hilarious and totally bogus characters as Prophet Opus Knight, Demetrius Chilblain III and Phebus McPhadden, known as the Critter Stuffer, all portrayed by real Orleanians in costumes and wigs. Grove will sign her book Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Octavia Books, 513 Octavia St. For information, call 504.899.7323.

The annual Poydras Home Art Show is a juried show offering an excellent opportunity to acquire quality art at fair prices. Proceeds benefit the Poydras retirement home. The show will be Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Nov. 8 from 12-4 p.m.
The patron party on Nov. 6 from 7-9 p.m. that kicks off the show is one of those "only in New Orleans" events that will be the highlight of the year for many locals. Peggy Scott Laborde and Errol Laborde are the honorary chairs of the event, held at Poydras Home, 5354 Magazine St. There will be a tent with fabulous food from some of the area's finest restaurants, an open bar and entertainment by the iconic Deacon John. Gala chairs are Julianne Gable and Emily Hammett. Tickets are $100. For information, call 504.897-0535....
