PARTY POUNDS OUT LATIN SOUNDS
The Hispanic-American Musicians and Artists Cultural Association recently presented "Hamaca Breezes" in conjunction with the annual Carnaval Latino.
The pre-event patron party took place on the east bank of the Mississippi River at Mardi Gras World's stunning Grand Oaks Mansion. The event was an opportunity to thank the many corporate sponsors who supported this year's celebration. The party featured Julio & Cesar and his band, and as is typical of a true Latin party, the event went on late into the morning.
The party was designed as a fundraising effort for Cuban-born New Orleanian and conguero Humberto "Pupi" Menes, who recently suffered a stroke. Menes is considered one of the city's finest percussionists.
Carnaval Latino in New Orleans is an established musical festival that celebrates Hispanic culture in the Crescent City. Each year, organizers attract top international musical entertainers who are showcased for a weekend of outstanding Latin music, art and cuisine.
Joining event sponsors this year was Aeromexico, which recently launched direct flights from New Orleans to Mexico City.
The Hispanic-American Musicians and Artists Cultural Association is a nonprofit organization whose primary mission is to mentor Hispanic musicians and artists throughout the Gulf Coast. For information or to get involved in next year's Carnival Latino, visit www.carnavallatinonola.com on the Web.
