McDonogh 35, Karr match pure prime time

The vagaries of stadium availability may have relegated Karr versus McDonogh 35 to Friday matinee status, but make no mistake that the Cougars and Roneagles' clash for District 10-4A supremacy is pure prime time.

The winner of this game has won or shared the 10-4A championship the past two seasons and there is nothing to indicate that this week seven pairing won't hold form. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Friday at Pan American Stadium, with McDonogh 35 celebrating homecoming.

"I think it's going to be a really good one," McDonogh 35 Coach Wayne Reese said. "If all of our kids come to play, it should be a good football game. It's going to be an uphill battle for us. But, hopefully, since it's homecoming, that will inspire our kids to do better."

McDonogh 35 (3-4, 1-0) faces an undefeated Karr team that is ranked No. 5 in the state in Class 4A and features one of Louisiana's top senior prospects in quarterback Munchie Legaux.

The Roneagles' record is a bit deceiving in that all four of their losses came at the start of the season and were closely-contested against Class 5A teams that either presently hold or held a Top 10 state ranking.

McDonogh 35 subsequently has won three straight, including a 30-19 victory against Easton on Saturday in the Roneagles' 10-4A opener.

"At this point, we look past records," Karr Coach Jabbar Juluke said. "We're in the second season. They're 3-0 in their last three games. We just have to be as efficient as possible and have no turnovers."

That the game is being played Friday afternoon, Juluke said, is a case "of when stadiums are available. You've got take what you can get sometimes." The time matters not to the Cougars, "not on our end," he said. "We're just playing."...
