Kehoe-France gives special salute to troops
Kudos to the members of the Service Club at Kehoe-France School in Metairie for its efforts on behalf of our U.S. military men and women.
The students have been spearheading the collection of donations for their project called Operation H.E.R.O., or Honoring Each Relative Overseas.
According to Tricia France, several relatives of students and staff are serving overseas.
"Each homeroom was given a personalized 'wish list' and photo of its hero," France said. "The students had one week to get the donations in because it takes several weeks for the boxes to get overseas in time for the holidays."
In addition to working on the Christmas packages, the school is planning a special salute to the troops early next week to celebrate Veterans Day.
"It's a wonderful opportunity to help show our students that they each can make a difference in the lives of those serving our country," France said.
Honoring service personnel
And speaking of Veterans Day, Sgt. Huey Fassbender, Sgt. Matthew J. Vosbein, and Pfc. Devon Bodenheimer, who were all Metairie residents, are among the 74 Louisiana troops who have been killed to date since the invasion of Iraq.
These fallen heroes will be honored this month at a special program at Parkview Baptist School in Baton Rouge this month.
Kehoe-France middle school teacher Tiffany Villarreal is the driving force behind the program.
