Come out of your shell at Pecan Fest
The St. Rita Pecan Festival will be held Nov. 13-15 on the grounds of St. Rita Church and School, 7100 Jefferson Highway, Harahan.
Hours are Nov. 13 from 6 to 11 p.m., Nov. 14 from noon to midnight and Nov. 15 from noon to 11 p.m. Musical entertainment will be provided throughout the weekend. The Top Cats are scheduled to play on Nov. 13 from 7 to 10 p.m.
On Nov. 14, Radio Disney will be on site with games, prizes and a live remote radio broadcast from 2 to 5 p.m. And later, Bag of Donuts will perform from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Closing out the festival on Nov. 15 will be the Gashouse Gorillaz from 2 to 5 p.m. and The Wise Guys from 7 to 10 p.m. The festival will feature a variety of carnival rides, food and game booths as well as a special Kid Zone with games and inflatables geared toward younger kids. For the older kids, wristbands can be purchased for the carnival rides at the raffle ticket booth at the festival. Individuals may purchase an "unlimited rides" wristband for the entire weekend for $50 or pay $20 each day.
According to publicity chairman Scott Rojas the festival will also have a cake contest and basket auction throughout the weekend.

Register for basketball
Boys and girls from age 6 on to 17 can register for basketball this week at Little Farms and Harahan Playgrounds.
To register, a child must live within each playground district and be registered before attending practice. Parents can register their children at Harahan Playground, 6601 10th St., Monday through Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. And at Little Farms Playground, 10301 South Park, River Ridge, registration is also Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
