Fest offers art, poster, and a whole lot more
Cypress trees with autumn leaves and sunlight reflected on the river's rippling water are captured in this year's poster for the Covington Three Rivers Art Festival. The 13th annual event will be held on Saturday and next Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., along Columbia Street in downtown Covington.
Signed and numbered copies of the poster, by artist Harriet Blum, will be available for $35 each.
Besides the original artwork of more than 200 artists, the free festival will feature demonstrations that include: Trish Ransom, 3-D media and jewelry; Rebecca Burt, jewelry; Madison Latimer, 2-D mixed-media; Charles Ellison, 2-D mixed-media; Carolyn Wass, ceramics/pottery; Ed Mitchell, jewelry; Mario Padilla, painting; and Michael Gaule, woodwork.
Activities in the Children's Hands-On Activity Area include making bookmarks, face-painting, cookie decorating, and creating tree-slice necklaces, animal-track impressions, rubbings, string art, windsocks and bracelets, as well as animal arts and crafts.
Entertainment for Saturday includes the Fontainebleau High School Jazz Ensemble from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., the McTeggart Irish Dancers of Louisiana from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Johnette Downing performing from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. and again from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m., Beverly Brown's emcee tryouts from 1:30 to 1:45 p.m., Dancescape from 1:45 to 2:15 p.m. and Frank Levy from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
On Nov. 15, the St. Peter Catholic School cheerleaders will display their skills from 10-10:30 a.m., Frank Levy will perform from 10:30-11:30 a.m., Shad Weathersby and Sam Broussard from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m., the McTeggart Irish Dancers of Louisiana from 1-1:45 p.m., the New Orleans Opera from 2:30-3:30 p.m. and the PortaPuppets from 3:45-4:45 p.m.
Student Art Competition entries will be on display at the Junior League Dogwood Cottage, at the corner of Kirkland and North Columbia streets, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The awards presentation will be held on Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.
