Special garage sale is set for Saturday
A special one-day garage sale will be Saturday at 304 Anthony Ave., Ingram Estates Subdivision in Abita Springs from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
All proceeds from the sales will be used to buy Christmas gifts for special-needs children in St. Tammany and Washington parishes said Al Andry, formerly associated with Special Children Are Privileged.
Andry, who was forced to step down and close the nonprofit organization 18 months ago because of illnesses, is recovering from two surgeries. "I still receive calls from some of the kids or their schools telling me about the kids' needs or wants, especially for this coming Christmas," Andry said.
"This will be the last time that I will be able to do anything for them and I want to try to help as many of the kids that I can."
In addition to the standard garage sale offerings, Andry has received from several local businesses various brand new items donated especially for the upcoming sale. They include sets of new fleur-de-lis dishes, and a variety of sporting goods to queen size bed spreads.
Anyone wishing to donate items to Andry for the sale or generic Christmas gifts for the children can call him before the sale at 985.892.4592.
