Four Plaquemines Parish men have been arrested in connection with the theft of more than 4,000 gallons of diesel fuel over the past few months.

Gary Shefcyk, 18, of 247 Suzie Road, Lake Hermitage; Justin Zigler, 21, of 117 Woodchase Drive, Belle Chase; and Joshua Flick, 18, of 115 Clausen Road in Belle Chasse, also were booked with damaging a $70,000 excavator, said Maj. John Marie, a spokesman for the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office.

Shefcyk was booked with one count of trespassing, six counts of theft, one count of criminal damage and one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Zigler was booked with three counts of theft and Flick was booked with one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Linwood Ridge, 18, of 340 Myrtle Grove Road, Myrtle Grove; was booked with trespassing and unauthorized use of a movable. Authorities are looking for an unidentified fifth suspect, Marie said.

After several reports of diesel fuel theft in the Citrus Lands area, Deputy Randall Fortmeyer spotted a pickup truck in an open field near his home on Monday and arrested Ridge and Schefcyk on suspicion of trespassing. He also discovered a stolen electric fuel pump in the truck, the Sheriff's Office said.

Detective Patrick Harvey learned that the fuel pump had been stolen from a job site on Martin Road in Belle Chasse, the Sheriff's Office said. That job site also reported damage to an excavator and diesel fuel theft. Harvey questioned the suspects who implicated themselves in the theft of the fuel from several victims, as well as damage to the excavator, the Sheriff's Office said.

Flick and Zigler were arrested Tuesday.
