Man rescued after SUV plunges into lake
A Slidell man was rescued from Lake Pontchartrain on Sunday morning after the sport utility vehicle he was driving fell from the eastbound twin span, according to authorities in St. Tammany Parish.
The man, identified as Mark Foret, 27, has been booked with DWI and careless driving, said Sgt. Emery Tumulty of State Police Troop L.
Foret reportedly told St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office deputies that he fell asleep at the wheel and his vehicle fell into the lake.
He was found clinging to a piling about 6 a.m. and was rescued by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office's Marine Division, Capt. George Bonnett said.
Foret was first taken to Slidell Memorial Hospital before he was arrested, Tumulty said.
The vehicle was recovered from the lake a few hours after the rescue.
