Harry Carraby is accused of killing man after attempted drug rip-off on Monday.The Hahnville man who was shot and killed Monday afternoon was participating in a drug rip-off of two ounces of marijuana, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office.

U.S. Attorney Jim Letten addressses the media after State Sen. Derrick Shepherd pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering at the Hale Boggs Federal Courthouse in New Orleans Oct. 10. Boy, was I pleased when Barack Obama won the election. At last, I thought to myself, we'll be rid of U.S. Attorney Jim Letten. Letten is a newspaperman's nightmare. You can't laugh at him because he never says anything stupid. You can't blast him because he is scrupulously fair. He works tirelessly putting crooks in stir, but is a most amiable fellow. He is an absolute dead loss.
So, thanks for nothing, Mary Landrieu. Just because Letten has done an exemplary job during the Bush administration, the doyenne of Louisiana Democrats does not think he should be replaced.

The Jefferson Parish Council accepted Assessor Lawrence Chehardy's latest valuation of homes and businesses this morning, although some in the audience offered a mild protest.
Assessments climbed 29 percent in the the first full re-evaluation of property since 2004. The increase had Chehardy warning residents to expect a jump in their tax bills.

The son of a top St. John the Baptist Parish official was among the four boaters killed in a head-on collision Saturday afternoon on the Blind River, officials said.
The two-boat accident also injured three, and one unidentified man is missing and presumed dead, said Bo Boehringer, a spokesman for the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

An impaired drivers checkpoint will be conducted today at an undisclosed location in St. Charles Parish by Louisiana State Police Troop B and the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office.
